Sealed Lead Acid Batteies
There are several types of sealed, maintenance free battery technologies available in 2021. Some may be better suited for certain applications than others. Westrock offers a complete line-up of maintenance free batteries from top manufacturers around the world:
AGM Battery Technology:
AGM In An Acronym For “Absorbent Glass Mat”, the term refers to the very fine glass mat separators between the plates that Absorb The sulfuric acid, making the battery spill-proof. This enables shipment without hazardous material restrictions. The plates can be made flat to resemble a standard flooded lead acid pack in a rectangular case; they can also be wound into a cylindrical cell.
AGM batteries are a variant of Sealed VRLA batteries, just a more advanced design. Popular usage includes high performance engine starting, power sports, deep cycle, solar and storage batteries.

For this type of battery the typical absorption voltage range 14.4 to 15.0 volts; typical float voltage range 13.2 to 13.8 volts.
Since The 1980’s Westrock Carries The Top AGM Battery Brands For Hundreds Of Applications Including Home Alarm, Emergency Lighting, UPS Backup, Kids Toys, Golf Carts, Older Lawn Mowers, Scooters, Older E-Bikes, Fish Locators, Spot Lights And Solar Energy Storage. Westrock Stock Leoch, Powersonic And BWG Brands. Westrock Can Special Order Victron And Specialty (Rare) Infinity Battery Sizes.
Gel & Silicone Gel Battery Technology:
The Gel Cell Battery is similar to the AGM battery style because the electrolyte is suspended, but different because technically the AGM battery is still considered to be a wet cell. The electrolyte in a gel cell battery has a silica additive that causes it to set up or stiffen. The recharge voltages on this type of cell are lower than the other styles of lead acid battery. This is probably the most sensitive cell in terms of adverse reactions to over-voltage charging. Gel batteries are best used in VERY DEEP cycle application and may last a bit longer in hot weather applications. If the incorrect battery charger is used on a Gel Cell battery, poor performance and premature failure is certain. Battery chargers with gel profile will have information either on the unit, or in the manual, about gel compatibility.
For this type of battery the typical absorption voltage range 14.0 to 14.2 volts; typical float voltage range 13.1 to 13.3 volts.
Gel batteries are not as common as AGM batteries, but are often found in deep discharge situations such as wheelchair and medical mobility batteries, trolling motor batteries, and RV deep cycle batteries.
WE HAVE SOLD GEL BATTERIES IN THE PAST AND EXPERIENCED HIGH FAILURE RATES BECAUSE THEY WERE CHARGED AT VOLTAGEs MORE SUITABLE FOR AGM BATTERIES. WE ADVISE AVOIDING GEL CELL BATTERIES!
Lead Carbon Batteries:
Lead carbon: better partial state-of-charge performance, more cycles, and higher efficiency
By Replacing the active material of the negative plate by a lead carbon composite potentially reduces sulfation and improves charge acceptance of the negative plate.
The advantages of lead carbon therefore are:
– Less sulfation in case of partial state-of-charge operation.
– Lower charge voltage and therefore higher efficiency and less corrosion of the positive plate.
– And the overall result is improved cycle life.
According To Victron Tests Have Shown That Their Lead Carbon Batteries Do Withstand At Least Five Hundred 100% DoD Cycles.
The tests consist of a daily discharge to 10,8V with I = 0,2Câ‚‚â‚€, followed by approximately two hours rest in discharged condition, and then a recharge with I = 0,2Câ‚‚â‚€.
Other Manufacturers Like Sacred Sun And CanLiFe (Both Available By Special Order On This Website) Offer Lead Carbon Batteries Have Been Tested To Achieve A Cycle Life Of Up To 2500Â 80% DoD Cycles. They Are One Of the Most Affordable Battery Options On The Market Today With 2 -3 Times Longer Life Spans Than Lead Acid And AGM In Partial State Of Charge Applications (Like Solar Energy Storage) But Not As Long As Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries. Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries Are Also About 60% Lighter Than All Lead Based Battery Technologies.
